A Day On The Farm

July 28, 2023

Participants: Lower East Side Girls Club

Setting up a playdate at the farm with Lower Eastside Girl’s Club had been on our minds since way back in February when Nina Tucker of our Programming Team visited the Girls Club HQ in NYC for a day of terrarium-making, micro-green planting, and forced-bulb growing. In the heat of midsummer, our dreams came to life when Girl’s Club members came to Sky High Farm to enjoy a full day of working with our farmers to connect with the land, meet our livestock, and create nature-inspired art pieces.

The members took a tour of our garden beds and exercised some of the knowledge they’ve been cultivating at their rooftop growing space back home by identifying different plants and produce. They then had the chance to take a walk with Sky High’s Livestock Manager, Julie Miller, who introduced members to our herd of cattle. After enjoying a big group lunch, the rest of the afternoon was spent writing farm-inspired haikus, painting the landscape, and embarking on a photo scavenger hunt around the farm.
It was a real treat to have our Girl’s Club friends from the city come visit us and experience the multitude of unique and enthralling environmental factors to be found in a rural space. If you haven’t heard about their expansive work yet, you can learn more about it here.
