2021-2022
As the foundation for a year's worth of collaborative programming, for which Forge Project, an Indigenous-led and centered arts organization was the host and thought-partner, the Sky High Farm team designed and managed the building of an outdoor teaching and cooking space, which came to be known as the Community Learning Kitchen. This space was built around the fulcrum of a custom-made wood fire oven, with layout and inventory developed for the express purpose of education and celebration situated within the landscape. Over the course of the collaboration, the kitchen was home to an ongoing series of workshops and events which brought Sky High's community to the space to learn, cook, eat, and commune in the outdoors. The guiding principles were a marriage of the two organizations’ shared values and goals to uplift and empower marginalized communities, engage with the land, and build skills and widen access to materials and education in the local community. The events evidenced a shared commitment to decolonized learning spaces and greater sovereignty in and outside of our food systems.
